Right when you are on the precipice of something new, it will happen.

Look carefully now!

Can you see it?

Habits are forming like different universes within a giant multiverse of potential futures.

Your emotions are going wild with excitement at the possibility of repetition. They are like an old horse when he knows you are going to the barn.

The pace is quickening. Your gaze is becoming fixed. The old, familiar road home opens up before you. Amid this daunting creative chaos, the stale familiarity is a sight for sore eyes.

Perilous Nostalgia is singing its siren song!

Well-known feelings are coming alive as though you have already taken this ride. Of course, you have - many, many times before!

Slow down!

Detach from these treasonous invitations with their worn-out, overblown sentiments. Let them live outside of you for a moment.

Consider them with detachment. The same old cards are ready to be played in the same old game.

Examine each card closely. Each one contains a cinematic world, fully developed, and searching for a star.

Imagine yourself taking the leading part. Watch the movie for a moment and let it go.

I said a moment!

Get out of there.

These are all the wrong decisions you could make.

Every time you have previously encountered these choices, you have selected one or another of them, momentarily construing it as the gateway to a narrative of progress.

Which one will you choose now?

NONE OF THEM!?

Among the playing cards, you will find one that is utterly unfamiliar. It is unknown. It doesn’t even call to you because it has not yet learned your name. But it is yours for the taking.

The moment you touch it, you will feel the difference.

You will immediately understand that this unfamiliar card hails from a place you have never been (or never been able to remain). With it comes a challenge:

Orient EVERYTHING you have, every word you speak, every place you go, every choice you make, every relationship you sustain…around this one card, and then play your hand over and over and over again in a new game:

FLOURISHING FUSION.

What are the rules of this new game?

Let’s play a few rounds!

Round One:

There is extreme tension building up inside of you. You are tempted to throw this thing into reverse. Your whole body is tense. Your mind (the seat of your perceptual reality) is screaming at you:

AVOID. AVOID. AVOID this discomfort.

Ignore it.

Think happy thoughts instead. Or yell at someone. Or call someone you know will collude with you in some way.

The Main Mind-Trip Message:

Whatever you do, do not sustain this tension. Do not embrace the truth of this moment. Discharge it.

To win this round, what must you do NOW?

Fuse your life with the future you desire.

Retain the tension. Befriend the panic.

Let it rock and roll inside of you. Listen to it. Ask it questions. Stay with it. Guard this treasure for yourself.

Somewhere in the midst of all this roiling distress, lies the genius you can only access when you stop the pointless, vainglorious attempts at escaping rock bottom and finally decide to be here now. You can’t outrun this anyhow.

Round Two:

A big old sentimental, romantic dream is trying to take hold in your life - trying to matter. It might not look like star-crossed lovers gazing into each other’s eyes.

This romantic dream might be about the merits and justifications for workaholic efforts that never lead to true wealth or advancement.

Or it might be about the good it does you to live a spartan life of forced exertion.

Or it might roll out as your hero’s journey of saving people (frequently, people who don’t actually want to be saved).

Whatever it is…

KILL IT!

What are you really avoiding with all this nonsense?

Yes, that, plus…

EVERYTHING YOU TRULY DESIRE.

Now write a new story (as opposed to touching upon a new subject and succumbing to the seductive tunes on Perlious Nostalgia Radio).

Title it…

REDSHIFT!

Play the new card.

Create some kind of variation in your usual stride.

Above all, reorder everything around one thing:

Your life, your business, your relationships, your genius…FLOURISHING.

You get the idea!

Neither you nor I know what steps you will have to take to get THERE (your flourishing future) from HERE (which might be pretty damn bad at this point).

But we both know you will never get there if you never enter the space in between and dare to cross it.

Now it’s truth time!
